Workers locked-out at Bay City Carquest

In the midst of unresolved contract negotiations,
workers at Carquest Auto Parts, 508 McGraw in Bay
City, are claiming they have been locked out and
refused the right to work.

“Our contract initially expired on Sept. 1,” said Dan
Kennell, president of Bay City Local 12934-02 of the
United Steelworkers of America.  While the workers
and representatives from Carquest parent company
General Parts International, Inc. met repeatedly, it
became clear it would take longer than Sept. 1 to
resolve the matters.

Local Unions to Celebrate Labor with the
Great Lakes Loons

After the great success of last years Loon's Celebrate
Labor at Dow Diamond, our local union as again
agreed to participate this year.

When: Tuesday, August 24th, 2010

What: West Michigan White Caps vs. Great Lakes
Loons

Where:  Dow Diamond

Game Starts at 7:05 p.m.


The game is Dollar Feast night, where hot dogs,
sodas, & ice cream sandwiches are all just $1.00

Like last year, the local union is offering a discount on
tickets to the game. All seats are half price when
purchased through the local union office. Reserved
box seats are $4.50 each, Lawn seats are $3.00 each.

Seats are limited, so purchase early. We had a
fantastic turn out last year and certainly hope to
repeat that again this year.

Union Office for tickets.

Dow Corning Tradesmen assist Area Boy Scouts

Tradesmen from the United Steelworkers (USW) Local 12934
at Dow Corning's Midland Site designed and built a charcoal
grill for the Boy Scouts of America. The actual grill was
donated by the Dow Corning Midland Plant.

Soar Members

The SOAR Picnic will be held on
THURSDAY July 15th, 2010

We will once again have a card tournament (or just friendly card playing,
depending on the wishes of those who attend), golf for those who are interested,
and all followed by our Annual Summer Picnic.

For the Card Players: Card games will begin at 10:00 a.m. at the American Legion Hall
on Hedgewood Dr., Midland MI.
Please bring decks of cards, if possible. If you are
interested in cards, and plan to attend,
please call Mac at 989-600-6499.

For the Golfers: Golfing will begin at 9:00 a.m. at Forest View Golf Course. Forest
View Golf Course is located 5 miles north of US 10 off of Eastman Road on E. Hurley Rd.
Following the golf outing, those interested in attending the Picnic will ravel to the American
Legion Hall and should be there no later than 12:00 noon.
Golfing will be $15 per golfer
for 9 holes with a cart. Contact Richard McInerney at 989-600-6499 no later than
July 6. 2010 for registration.

Picnic: The American Legion Hall on Hedgewood Dr., Midland, MI will once again
prepare Hot Dogs, Brats, and Hamburgers. Our Club will furnish coffee, iced tea, soda pop,
plates, napkins, etc. A cash bar will be available for those wishing alcoholic beverages. We
ask that members please bring a dish to pass.
We will eat at 1:00 p.m. Following lunch we
will have a FREE Bingo session with prizes furnished by the Club.
